Ohmigod--Sadness

Gloria Monty, executive producer on ABC Daytime's General Hospital for over a decade, passed away on Thursday in California. Gloria took over the directing reigns of General Hospital in 1978 when network executives challenged her to turn the show around at a time in its history when it was struggling. With her vision, she helped make it an international sensation and the top-rated daytime drama for nearly a decade. During her watch, GH earned five nominations for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, winning twice in 1980-81 and in 1983-84. She was single-handedly responsible for changing the face of daytime with her adventurous storylines about younger characters who could reach out to younger viewers, and with the creation of internationally recognized supercouples Luke & Laura, Frisco & Felicia and Robert & Holly. Funeral arrangements are private. Ms. Monty is survived by her sister Norma.

This is one of the MOST important people in the soap industry. Sadness
