I’m Just Here For the Comedy

So ‘The One’ was canceled. This didn’t come as a surprise to most of us; once we heard that univision was beating us some nights the writing was on the wall. What was sad is that—besides getting to work with Davis which I adored—the show was on its way to getting really good. The morning we were told about being pulled all of us were excited to be at work. There had been some shocking twists the night before and even some strong fall out. We were happy to be there.

So it was a good vibe in the MCR that morning as we start to take notes on the morning work out and wake up of the talent. Things are a little hectic because one of the new hires just up and quit the show and so we were down a person but all in all we were smiling. A break came in the taping and I decided to run out to the bathroom.

The bathrooms are located in a star trailer outside the loft and so I’m gone for a few minutes longer than normal. I grabbed a water as I listened to the sounds of the talent warming up at the piano while I made my way through the compound.

I was surprised to see one of our PA in my seat as I re-entered the MCR. I tried to kick him out of my chair but he gave me a blank stare as everyone else just kind of milled around. He didn’t know why I wanted to get back on my computer and I just pointed to the monitor where the talent was sitting in a circle. “I have to work.’ That’s when Blackie—one of the loggers—came over to me.

“Hey—where’ve you been?”

“In the bathroom…”

“Oh—we were just canceled….”

That’s right—canceled while I was in the bathroom. I was in total shock as various people laughed at me. Because how does this happen? And why does it happen to me? It’s not that I was upset—just found it very humorous more than anything.

I just wasn’t expecting going to the bathroom to cost me my job.
